island.about
Tenerife is far more than a beach destination. It's a living, breathing island of contrasts — the electric energy of Santa Cruz's Carnival (the world's second largest after Rio), the cobblestone charm of UNESCO-listed La Laguna, the rustic guachinche taverns of the north where locals share smoked ribs and house wine, the glamour of Costa Adeje's luxury resorts, and the extraordinary Loro Parque in Puerto de la Cruz. Above it all, Mount Teide — Spain's highest peak — watches over an island that never stops surprising.
Santa Cruz Carnival
The world's second-largest carnival after Rio — two weeks of parades, costumes, live music, and street parties every February. An unmissable spectacle.
Guachinches & Local Food
Rustic family-run wine taverns serving costillas ahumadas con piñas (smoked ribs with corn), papas arrugadas, escaldón de gofio, and house wine straight from the barrel.
San Cristóbal de La Laguna
A UNESCO World Heritage city just minutes from Santa Cruz — colonial architecture, a stunning cathedral, vibrant student life, and the best local restaurant scene on the island.
Costa Adeje Beaches & Resorts
The south's golden coastline — luxury 5-star hotels, calm turquoise waters, beach clubs, and world-class spa resorts. Tenerife's glamorous side.
Puerto de la Cruz & Loro Parque
The charming north coast town is home to Loro Parque — one of the world's best zoos and aquariums — plus the iconic Lago Martiánez lido by César Manrique.
Mount Teide & Stargazing
Spain's highest peak at 3,718m — a UNESCO World Heritage volcano with cable car access, extraordinary hiking, and some of the world's best stargazing at the summit.
island.mustSee
Two weeks of pure joy — the world's second-largest carnival fills the streets with elaborate costumes, live orchestras, and infectious energy every February.
Rustic family taverns tucked into the vineyards — order costillas ahumadas, papas arrugadas, and a jug of house wine. The most authentic Tenerife experience.
A perfectly preserved colonial city — cobblestone streets, a magnificent cathedral, vibrant tapas bars, and the cultural soul of Tenerife.
Tenerife's glamorous south coast — five-star resorts, calm golden beaches, beach clubs, and world-class spa hotels right on the Atlantic.
One of the world's top-rated zoos and aquariums — orcas, gorillas, penguins, and the most spectacular parrot collection on Earth.
Spain's highest peak and a UNESCO World Heritage Site — take the cable car to 3,555m for views across the entire archipelago.

Winter (Dec–Feb)
18–22°C
Peak season — warm, sunny, and the time for Carnival (February). The south stays dry while the north can be lush and green.
Spring (Mar–May)
20–24°C
Ideal weather across the island. Quieter than winter, great value. Teide is at its most dramatic with snow on the summit.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
26–30°C
Hot and sunny in the south. The north stays cooler. Beach season in full swing — Costa Adeje is buzzing with life.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
22–26°C
Warm sea, golden light, and fewer crowds. The best time for hiking Teide and exploring La Laguna's restaurant scene.

Carnival is in February — book accommodation 6+ months in advance. The Murgas (singing groups) and Rondallas start weeks before the main parade.
For guachinches, head to the Orotava Valley and Tacoronte area in the north. Look for handwritten signs — the best ones have no website.
La Laguna is 20 minutes from Santa Cruz by tram (tranvía) — a cheap, easy day trip with some of the island's best restaurants.
Costa Adeje has the calmest, warmest beaches. Playa del Duque and Playa Fañabé are the finest. Book resort hotels well in advance for winter.
Loro Parque is in Puerto de la Cruz — allow a full day. Buy tickets online to skip the queue. The orca show is extraordinary.
Air Canada and Air Transat fly direct from Toronto (YYZ) and Montréal (YUL) to Tenerife South (TFS), October 2026 through April 2027 — approximately 8 hours non-stop. Outside that season, connect via Madrid (Iberia) or London for year-round access.
